If you love a good burger but don’t always want the bun, these burger bowls are where it’s at. They’re juicy, loaded with flavor, and topped with all the good stuff. And the roasted sweet potatoes? They make the difference let me tell you!
This is one of our go-to meals, especially when I have ground beef (or even moose!) on hand. It’s simple, satisfying, and totally customizable.
Roasted Sweet Potatoes
These are crispy on the edges, and soft inside. They make you want to eat them straight off the tray.
You’ll need:
- 2 medium sweet potatoes (about 4 cups diced)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
Instructions:
- Peel your sweet potatoes and dice them into small cubes.
- Toss them in a big bowl with olive oil and seasonings until evenly coated.
- Spread out on a baking sheet (don’t overcrowd).
- Bake at 425°F for 30 minutes, flipping halfway. You want those crispy edges! If you forget this step it’s no biggy!
Cook sweet potatoes first because they take the longest!
Burger Meat (Beef or Moose!)
This is the heart of flavor for your bowl. Don’t skip the onions and garlic here… they’re the real MVPs.
You’ll need:
- 1 lb ground beef (or moose!)
- 1 medium yellow onion (cut into thin “stringy” slices)
- 2 garlic cloves, pressed
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp dried oregano
- ¾ tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Oil for sautéing
Instructions:
- Cut your onion in half, lay flat-side down, and slice into thin string-style slices.
- In a large skillet, heat some oil and sauté onions until soft and golden. Add garlic and cook 1–2 more minutes.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned and fully cooked.
- Sprinkle in all seasonings + Worcestershire sauce and stir well to coat. Donezo!
Assemble Your Burger Bowls
Now for the fun part….layering it all together!
Here’s what we put on ours:
- A handful of shredded cabbage or greens for crunch
- A scoop of roasted sweet potatoes
- A serving of that juicy seasoned burger meat
- Sliced avocado
- Pickles (don’t skip these!)
- Cherry tomatoes, halved
- Shredded Cheese
- A generous drizzle of burger sauce (recipe below)
Burger Sauce
This is what ties the whole bowl together.
You’ll need:
- 1/3 cup mayo
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp pickle juice or apple cider vinegar
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- Salt & pepper to taste (I usually start with ½ tsp of each)
Instructions:
Mix it all together in a small bowl. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. You can even make this ahead and keep it in the fridge for up to a week.
Tips & Swaps
- Want low carb? Swap sweet potatoes for cauliflower rice or skip them altogether.
- Dairy-free? Skip the cheese and use a DF mayo for the sauce.
This meal has saved dinner at our house more than once. It is easy enough for a weeknight, and tasty enough for guests! Let me know if you try it, and tag me if you share it.
